Central-Artery

With the recent opening of the High Line park in New York City, would the same concept have worked for the Central Artery in Boston if it wasn’t torn down?

This actually brings me back to a similar idea of an elevated park in Nice, France. But unlike the High Line or the Promenade Plantée in Paris, the elevated garden in Nice is not build on an abandoned structure. The photo below doesn’t show the park condition, but you can see that part of it is sitting on top of a parking garage. It should seem like they added the garden on top of the parking garage which is also next to the main bus terminal in Nice.

The park  flows down from the north to the ocean as shown on the map below. The highlighted area is where the park sits on an elevated platform.

Elevating an urban green park is nothing new, but it’s an interesting component  that I’m considering for my project. The idea hasn’t been thoroughly work out yet, but the process is to recreate a historical image of the Central Artery by creating an elevated park (public space) that runs right through the site,  perhaps marking the beginning and ending point of the Greenway. Some sketches to follow soon.
